Atakan is a dual-qualified attorney, admitted to practice in both New York and Türkiye, with a focus on cross-border dispute resolution and public international law.
In his dispute resolution practice, Atakan has represented clients in complex cross-border matters, often collaborating as co-counsel with prominent American and British law firms. He has also advised international investment funds and foreign corporations on enforcing ICC arbitral awards in Türkiye.
In public international law, Atakan advises foreign governments on civil and criminal matters involving their diplomatic missions in Türkiye, with a particular emphasis on sovereign immunity and compliance with the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations. He also represents high-profile individuals and media companies in matters involving fair trial rights, liberty and security rights, and freedom of expression before the European Court of Human Rights and the Turkish Constitutional Court.
Atakan has completed work placements with major international human rights organizations in London and Amsterdam and served as a secondee in New York at a leading construction group managing a portfolio of civil lawsuits, in close collaboration with reputable North American law firms.
