Ahmet Karahan

Ahmet is a lawyer, mediator, and arbitrator with over fifteen years of experience in dispute resolution. He has successfully represented foreign and domestic clients of all sizes in various sectors, including agriculture, food and beverage, banking, energy, infrastructure, and construction, among others. He offers a rare combination of broad experience and excellent communication skills in various areas of public law, such as administrative law, litigation, and regulated industries.

Ahmet began his career as a law student intern in a reputable firm and became a senior lawyer there, working on disputes relating to multinational entities' investment projects and commercial litigation, arbitration, and international trade, tax, and customs litigation. He also worked in Japan as a visiting lawyer in a leading Japanese law firm and continued his support when he returned to Türkiye. He carried out supporting and advising duties for Turkish public entities and committees on day-to-day operations, license, and permission processes, administrative planning, and structuring, as well as on minimizing risks and avoiding disputes. He intends to further develop his professional expertise by completing his Ph.D. in public/administrative law and economy.

• Representation of a multinational cross-border pipeline consortium and its British leader on all steps and processes of commercial, construction, intellectual property, and employment disputes before local and appellate courts,
• Support, guidance, and assistance for a European telecom company and its global arbitration lawyers in relation to disputes being subject to international commercial arbitration procedures as well as representation of same in enforcement proceedings of arbitral awards
• Representation of a Japanese heavy industry company before commercial courts and the Court of Appeals with respect to its position and liability as consortium leader regarding the disputes arising from installation, repair, and maintenance agreement and financial documents for revitalizing construction works of a crucial power plant in Turkey
• Attendance to and follow-up on all steps and processes of criminal procedures before various stages of local criminal courts and Court of Appeals to represent foreign pharmaceutical companies and its executives in relation to allegations regarding regulatory and tender-related violation
• Representation of the Turkish subsidiary of a Japanese leading high-power broadcasting systems and component producer before local and regional administrative courts to seek for annulment of prohibitions implemented by the relevant Turkish authorities; Further consultancy and support on preparation and qualification regarding same for official participation in target public tender offers upon a successful court stay order and injunction
• Representation of multinational, Korean, and Turkish joint venture construction and infrastructure companies in relation to highway and tunnel projects during negotiations with government authorities on build-operate-transfer contracts and financial protocols; Support to and cooperation with the relevant government departments regarding collective claims and allegations regarding environment and urban planning
• Representation and assistance for special purposes vehicles companies and Turkish joint ventures of a US-originated bank and international fund   in connection with foreign and commercial and tourism investments disputes with contractors; Conducting further essential enforcement and foreclosure proceedings and conclusion of a settlement through debt recovery and restructuring for collection of receivables     
• Representation of a leading German bank and Japanese precious metal producers against Turkish companies through bankruptcy lawsuits and proceedings before local commercial and execution courts as well as before various commercial chambers of the Court of Appeals
• Support, guidance, and assistance for commercial port operators and shipping companies on investment planning and negotiations as well as on disputes with business partners and adjacent area beneficiaries regarding operation land and boarding uses and occupations
• Representation of a well-known fast-moving consumer good production company during an administrative litigation process before local administrative courts and the Council of State regarding environmental fine impositions               
• Consultancy and representation for foreign steel, petrochemical, and trade companies and unions from Japan, Kuwait, and UAE in trade policy investigations (dumping, subsidy, and safeguard proceedings) before the General Directorate of Imports of the Ministry of Economy
• Support and assistance to the US, Egypt, and Asia-Pacific-based companies and international firms for domestic, international and WTO-related trade dispute settlement processes in connection with Turkish legislations on customs and trade, 
• Representation for domestic and foreign clients as well as for production and service unions before local and regional/cassation administrative and tax courts and Council of State in connection with sector regulations, tax, customs, trade, technical and monetary impositions, sanctions, interventions, and penalties
